How Much Do Facebook Ads Cost in Mauritius? A Practical 2026 Guide
Facebook ads cost as much as you decide to spend: there is no fixed price. In Mauritius, you can start with as little as about Rs 1,000 a week, which in my experience is enough to start seeing results. What each enquiry or sale costs you depends on four things: your goal and where you send people, the quality of your ad, where it is shown, and how well the ads are managed and tracked. For example, an ad that opens a WhatsApp chat usually costs less per enquiry than one that sends people to a landing page to book a call in a calendar.
THE QUICK ANSWER
- Starting budget: about Rs 1,000 a week is enough to start seeing results (my experience).
- Easier = cheaper: a WhatsApp chat costs less per lead than a form, a landing page or a calendar booking.
- Better ads pay less: Meta’s auction rewards ads people engage with.
- Match format to placement: vertical video for Reels and Stories, other formats for the feed.
- Use Ads Manager and track results, so your money goes to the ads that work.
A warning before the numbers: the same Rs 1,000 can bring 50 enquiries or none. The difference is rarely the budget. It is the person behind the ads: how they create, manage, optimise and track them. This guide shows you what to look at. It is also the creative – photo or video you decide to use. If it is dull and unclear, people might not engage with your business.

How Facebook ad pricing works
You do not buy Facebook ads at a fixed rate. Each time someone could see an ad, Meta runs an auction between the advertisers who want to reach that person. According to Meta’s explanation of ad auctions, the winner is the ad with the highest “total value”, which combines three things:
- Your bid: what you are willing to pay for the result you want (Meta can set this for you automatically).
- Estimated action rates: how likely the person is to do what you asked, such as send a message.
- Ad quality: judged from people’s feedback, such as hiding the ad, and from signs of low quality like engagement bait or withheld information.
Meta adds that an ad more relevant to a person “could win an auction against ads with higher bids”. In plain words: a good ad that people respond to wins more often and pays less for each result.
You will see your costs in Ads Manager as:
| Metric | What it means |
|---|---|
| CPM | Cost per 1,000 times your ad was shown |
| CPC | Cost per click on your ad |
| Cost per result | What you paid for each result you chose, for example each WhatsApp conversation started or each lead form |
| Amount spent | What you actually paid, which never goes above the budget you set |
Cost per result is the number that matters. A cheap click that never becomes an enquiry is not cheap.
How much should you spend on Facebook ads in Mauritius?
In my experience, about Rs 1,000 a week is the minimum to start seeing results for a local business. It is enough to run one clear offer to one audience for a week or two and see whether people respond. In the WhatsApp-enquiry campaigns I have run, an enquiry has cost about Rs 15 in ad spend. That is my experience, not a benchmark: it changes with your industry, your offer and the season, and it rises in busy months such as December.
| Weekly budget | What it can usually do | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| About Rs 1,000 | One offer, one audience, one or two ads | A first test, a local shop or service |
| Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 | Two or three ads tested against each other, plus a retargeting audience | A business that already knows its offer works |
| More than Rs 5,000 | Several offers or audiences, video and image ads, always-on campaigns | Growing businesses with a follow-up process in place |
These tiers are my guidance from running ads for Mauritian businesses, not Meta rules.
The audience is there: DataReportal’s Digital 2026 report for Mauritius put Facebook’s ad reach at 886,000 people and Instagram’s at 418,000. To set the right amount for your business, work backwards from what a customer is worth: how much a business in Mauritius should spend on marketing shows how. In a marketing strategy, ads serve the visibility stage: getting the right people to notice you.

What makes Facebook ads cost more or less
1. Your goal, and how hard you make it to reach you
The more steps you ask people to take, the more each lead costs. Sending people straight into a WhatsApp Business chat is usually cheaper than sending them to a landing page where they must fill in a form or pick a time in a calendar. Each extra step loses people, so you pay for more clicks to get one result. If you have a very sales team on the backend, better go with Whatsapp Business Chats because at least they get a personalised experience. This can work specifically for businesses selling expensive products or services.

That does not mean the cheapest lead is always best. A booked call may be worth more than ten casual WhatsApp messages. Choose the destination that fits your sale, and make sure someone replies quickly: WhatsApp Business for small businesses shows how to set up quick replies and labels.
2. The quality of your ad
A boring or badly made ad that nobody stops to watch costs more, because the auction rewards ads people engage with. Creative matters well beyond Facebook: in a Nielsen Catalina Solutions analysis reported in 2017, creative accounted for 47% of a campaign’s sales effectiveness, far more than any other single factor.
- Show the product or the result in the first two seconds.
- Put the offer and the price, or a clear reason to message, in the ad itself.
- Speak the language of the customer: English, French or Creole.
- Make two or three versions and let the results decide.
3. Where your ad is shown
When you choose several placements, your ad can appear on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Meta Audience Network and more. To get the most from your budget, match the format of your ad to the places that suit it:
| Your ad | Best placements |
|---|---|
| Vertical video, 9:16 (the Reels format) | Facebook Reels, Instagram Reels and Stories |
| Landscape video, 16:9 | Facebook and Instagram Feeds |
| Photo (square or 4:5) | Feeds, Facebook search results and Messenger |
| Several formats prepared | Let Meta use all placements, with the right version in each |
Placement advice from my experience; recommended sizes from a 2026 Meta ad specs guide. Feeds favour 4:5, and Stories and Reels favour 9:16.
In Ads Manager, you can choose your placements yourself or upload a different version of the ad for each placement. Also connect your Instagram account to your Facebook Page and ad account, so your Instagram ads run under your own Instagram profile. The option advantage + is also available. It chooses the placements for you. My best advice is to have two ad sets – one with manual placements and one with advantage +. See which one is bringing better results. If you run both at the same time, you may have something called audience fragmentation in the beginning, that is, your ads are competing against each other and targeting the same audience unnecessarily but testing this is worth it in the end.
I have had manual placements campaigns perform better than advantage + in the past so it is worth a shot.

4. How the ads are managed and tracked
The fourth factor is the person running the ads. The same budget gives very different results depending on whether someone checks the numbers, turns off what does not work and puts more money behind what does. That is covered in the next two sections. You should not simply create a campaign and leave it to itself without optimising further.
Ads Manager vs boosting: who controls the budget?
Boosting a post is quick: you choose a goal, an audience, a budget and the number of days. According to Meta’s help page on boosted posts, you can still edit the audience, budget or duration of an active boost (on facebook.com, not the iPhone app), but not the text, images or video once it is published.
What boosting cannot do is manage your money for you. In Ads Manager you can:
- Raise or lower the budget at any time, at campaign or ad set level (though reducing the budget can have some consequences on your results)
- Run several ads side by side and move the budget to the winning ad.
- Set automated rules, for example pause an ad when its cost per result goes above a limit, or increase the budget when results are good.
- Choose the right objective and placements, and reach people who already know you.
So a boost brings some results, but a proper campaign in Ads Manager usually brings more for the same money. The full comparison is in Ads Manager vs Boost Post. You also get recommendations from Meta directly on how to improve your ads which is not the case with boosted posts. If you spend well enough, at some point, you will get access to a Meta Strategist (a real person) who can help you improve your ads.
Track what works, then spend only on that
If you track which ads bring enquiries and sales, you can stop the ones that do not, put the money behind the winners and pay less for each result. Every week, look at:
- Cost per result for each ad, not just for the campaign,
- which ad and audience brought the enquiries,
- how many enquiries became sales: ask new customers how they found you, and note it in your CRM or enquiry sheet.
If you use a proper pixel and Meta conversions API, you can get even better results. There are options where you can even track the winning ad in your CRM if you run multiple campaigns.

Check yours: For last month’s ads, can you say which single ad brought the most customers, and what each one cost?
Why Facebook ads alone will not grow your sales
Here is what usually happens. A business boosts a few posts, sees likes and some messages, spends Rs 5,000 and cannot say whether it made any money. So it concludes that “Facebook ads don’t work in Mauritius”.
The ads were rarely the problem. Results depend on four things: how the ads are created, how they are managed, how they are optimised and how they are tracked. Boosting a post skips most of them. And even good ads cannot fix a weak offer or slow replies. More ads won’t fix a leaking bucket.
Find your weakest stage first. If people message but do not buy, the problem is conversion, not ad cost. The five stages of a small-business marketing strategy show where ads fit and what to fix around them.
Check yours: Before you increase your ad budget: who is the ad for, what happens after the click, and how will you know it worked?
Frequently asked questions
How much do Facebook ads cost in Mauritius?
There is no fixed price: you set the budget. In my experience, about Rs 1,000 a week is enough to start seeing results for a local business. The cost per enquiry depends on your goal, your ad, the placements and how well the ads are managed.
What is the minimum budget for Facebook ads?
Meta lets you start with a small daily or total budget. For results you can learn from, I recommend at least about Rs 1,000 a week for one or two weeks.
Why are my Facebook ads so expensive?
Usually because the goal asks too much of people (forms, landing pages, bookings), the ad is not engaging, the format does not suit the placements, or nobody is turning off the ads that do not work.
Is it cheaper to boost a post or use Ads Manager?
Boosting is simpler, but Ads Manager usually gets more results for the same money, because you can test ads, use automated rules, choose placements and move budget to the winners.
Can I change my Facebook ad budget after it starts?
Yes. In Ads Manager you can raise or lower budgets at any time. For a boosted post, you can edit the budget and duration of an active boost on facebook.com, but you cannot change the text, images or video.
Do I need an Instagram account to run Instagram ads?
No, you can run Instagram ads using your Facebook Page. But connecting your Instagram account lets your ads run under your own Instagram profile.
Want your ads to cost less per customer?
Start with about Rs 1,000 a week, make it easy for people to reach you, match your ad formats to the placements, and track every result. Then spend more only on what works.
If you would rather have your ads created and managed for you, I offer ad management for businesses in Mauritius: book a call and we will look at your goals. If your sales problem is bigger than ads, the Market Dominator Blueprint finds what is really holding your sales back in 10 days and puts one joined-up plan into action. Not ready for either?
